Jesus is coming out of this great Jewish tradition, which is a very ethical, very morally astute tradition. Would anyone that preceded him in his own tradition have said something like that? He's certainly not trying to lay out a political program. What he's interested in is divinization,. divinization, that we become conformed to God's way of being.
