The Communist Manifesto - A Bizarre Life
Every time capitalism teetres on the brink of true disaster, the Communist Manifesto becomes a book that people reach for to try and understand what might come next. It had another rebirth in 2008 with the great financial crisis. That fight in reading the Communist manifesto went alongside some of the bigger fights of the Cold War. And then in 1989 it had another near-death experience when the states of Eastern Europe that called themselves Communist collapsed. They lived long enough to see the hopes of change and then the disappointment of those hopes to see the ideas in their 1848 Manifesto sputter into life and then fall away again.
