The Unrepeatable Transitional Role of John the Baptist
In his person and work, John fulfills prophecy as the personal hinge that moves from the old that promises the Messiah to the new that reveals the Messiah. He occupies that unique and unrepeatable historical position of the one who, as it were now, takes his finger and points behold the lamb of God. No one else, no prophet prior, no prophet following, no apostle following, no one serves that unique transitional role except John the Baptist.
