The thing of highest value is often found amidst that which we have discarded. Oftentimes in these fairy tales, there's a king and three sons. The youngest son is the dumling in Russian fairy tales. He's usually named Ivan. And he does nothing all day, but sleep with his feet up under the stove. This is not what the culture values. It's the dumbling who represents the inferior function. That which is not refined that has not been polished or socialized.
