A Brief History of the Belgian Front

The Northern frontier with Belgium was a bit more interesting for both political and geological reasons. There were some concerns that erecting a bunch of defenses on the border between the two nations would send the wrong kind of message to the Belgians. Along much of the border the water table was simply too high to allow for the same kind of fortifications that had been built further south. The Great Depression made it challenging for the French government to continue construction.
