There's a reward system called the opioid system, which is associated with long duration effort and pain killing. The new class of drugs that stimulate release of endogenous opioids like OxyContin or colonica have led to an increase in addiction. Everything we do will tap into these chemical systems just like they did 10,000 years ago. We want to enhance the release of these neurochemicals through behaviors without having to ingest anything.
