Any social animal needs to engage in competition and co operation. We have two very powerful arenas of competition, the market and the state. But what we've been losing is our arenas of co-operation - families, communities,. charities, volunteering. Those things have been weakening over the past several decades. And the end result is societyas become more abrasive and unequal.
