Foucault: The Origins of Conjugated Love

Foucault says the notion of conjugal love emerges at the beginning of the common era. He dates it specifically to the Roman period, but argues that we actually see the beginnings in Hellenistic Egypt. Most historians and sociologists say that conjugal love doesn't emerge until much later in the 19th century.
