The Role of a Helper

Helper is a word in the Hebrew that carries with it military connotations. It's someone that actually enters into the battle, which is what Nehemiah does. A helper fills in gaps and pays attention to needs of others. We don't like being told we need help because we think we can save ourselves. The man and woman together fulfill the image of God.
