Guj's Pro-Monarchy Writings
Guj was arrested on the 20th of July 1793, for having written a pamphlet that called for new elections. The revolution had descended into chaos with Louis XVI and Marianne Twenette being imprisoned along with their young children. When questioned, Guj claimed that she had just been trying to reconcile everyone. For Guj, suggesting a constitutional monarchy was less a matter of breaching the law than trying to reunite France. Her only hope of avoiding death was to claim that she was pregnant. But her body was inspected, the pregnancy disproved, andLess than 24 hours later, she was executed in Paris.
