Libya has immense resources underneath the desert which are sought after by energy hungry europe and, to a lesser extent, t he united states. But because cadafi had been demonized and caricatured for decades, how to bring the mad dog from the middle east in from the cold was going a tricky thing. I think blair viewed himself as a mediator in that regard. In a way, he was seprising the role that he was playing between the americans and the impending invasion of arock. Who knew they were on the same side all along?
