The Origins of the Australian Shield
It's made of red mangrove wood, one of the woods specifically chosen by indigenous Australians to make shields. This shield was owned by a man living on a continent that his ancestors had occupied for over 60,000 years. Phil Gordon, Aboriginal Heritage Officer at the Australian Museum in Sydney, describes the way of life in the area.
