The Limits of Care Orders
The case explores the limits of how far such orders can go. A 16-year-old girl was subject to a care order by Manchester City Council and CP. She had suffered physical abuse from her father who had a history of drug misuse. When missing, she was considered to be at risk of child sexual exploitation or involvement in organised criminal gangs. The local authority are able to make decisions if the parents do not agree,. save in life-threatening circumstances.
