The Importance of Understanding the Media in the US
The vast bulk of what intelligence analysts in the US government use to try to understand what's going on is public information derived from media. I began my career as an analyst of the Soviet Union back in the days when there was a Soviet Union. You can't understand where the Washington Post is coming from unless you understand who is behind the Washington Post. Unfortunately, that also is true of the whole range of media in the United States these days. And we're starting to see through what's being exposed in collaboration between Silicon Valley and the US government. How the US government can use media to try to narrow the bounds of acceptable public discourse in the U.S.
