The Mystery of Dormant Innovations in Nature and Culture
Johannes Vermeer, the 17th century Dutch painter, now known as the Master of Light. His sublime paintings include the now ultra-famous Girl with the Pearl Earring. During his lifetime, Vermeer painted few works and he gained only local recognition in Delft. He died a few years later in 1675, which his wife later attributed to stress from the debts.
