The Myth of the Minute Man
Most of the time they didn't act like soldiers from the British point of view. Most of them, and then New England a lot of times the militia did stand their ground in battles. Outside New England, the militia were undependable and were unable to perform as traditional troops. So the myth of the minute man is a bit misleading.
