Kodylef and Valentin Glushko
On August 19, 1960, Sputnik 5 shoots two dogs, Belka and Strelka into space. They are the first animals to return alive. At almost exactly the same time, America's first spy satellite, Corona, completes a successful test flight. The prototype of Vostok delivered two dogs into space and brought them back from space. It was the first time a payload had actually been retrieved in one piece, the dogs were alive.
