The Importance of Goddesses
Goddesses were absolutely part and parcel of ancient Yahweh religion. Hebrew inscriptions that refer to Yahweh and Ashera together seems to index particular religious assumptions about the pair. She played a role in mediating divine blessings from Yahweh onto certain individuals, so she was an important goddess in her own right. We find her under various names worshipped all over ancient South-East Asia,. particularly the Levant area.
