Plants and Animals on the New Earth?

Do these passages settle the question of whether there'll be plants and animals on the new earth? I don't think so. All these passages are highly symbolic, and the plants and animals may well be symbolic. For example, in revelation 22, it says that the leaves of the tree of life will be used for the healing of the nations. But that would suggest that sickness and disease are realities that still need to be treated. So it's most likely that the tree is just a symbol that people will be immortal and healthy.
