Socrates and the Homeric Society

Socrates may well have been appropriate at that time, perhaps given the cultural background of the people that he was talking to. But it doesn't mean that it's always the right thing to do. And in particular, they often go into the concept, reifying mode and the kind of analytical mode without giving you a good way to come out of that. So maybe if he were alive today, he would not see that as being the appropriate move to make with the people who are that he would meet.
