The Importance of Honswinsian in the History of the Qing Empire

China had lost the opium wars by this point and things clearly weren't going well. The Japanese are referred to as dwarves or pirates or even dwarf pirates just to emphasize it. I think we have nothing to learn from Japan which is why the Sino-Japanese War in 1894, 1895 was such a calamity for the self-view of the Qing state.
