The first time Drew saw another black birder was on television, Dudley Edmondson. He says the prairie warbler "lit a fire that gave me enough courage" to change his path. When he was growing up in Columbus, Ohio, no adults and no kids were into nature. To have a life where you go 23, 24 years before you see someone practicing your passion who looks like you is important.
