How to Stifle the Work of the Spirit in the Community

To stifle, to quench the fire would be to extinguish. So Paul simply says, don't put out the work of the Spirit in the community. One way that we do this is by treating the Spirit not like a person, but like a concept or a thing. An apathy to the Spirit and just kinda, you're like, I'm just kinda doing the normal Christian thing over here. And what we're doing in them, we're stifling the Spirit from working within our church and within our lives.
