The Disadvantages of Hotels in the Asylum System
The asylum seekers will be checked in and out of the port though. Some local residents feel very unhappy about hotels with some of which they like to use maybe for a wedding or a conference. There have been community tensions that way. Local authorities who have also been extremely concerned that there is a protection that is given to those inside them. So yes, it's been a very controversial policy. Most controversial of all because it's so blinking expensive. And the only reason we're having to put them in hotels and you say that's the normal way. It's not a normal way. You know, back in the day we didn't use hotels hardly at all because we had enough asylum accommodation available
