Is the Self Like Santa Claus?
The self is not something physical that you can locate somewhere. You don't need to be a sophisticated, linguistic creature in order to have a self. And so i guess the trick is to try and think, for myself, what does it do for me? What is it that before having a sense of self, i could not make sense of?
