It’s a collection that flays with its honesty, filtering the 20-year-old’s relationship experiences — familial, romantic, and otherwise — into lyrics that are searing, sassy, and sad too (‘The Man Who Came Back’ we’re looking at you).
There’s some solid good-time bangers too ‘Touch Me Like a Gangster’ and ‘Blue Strips’ with Sexyy Red to name a couple. We talk about all this, the Alabama-born singer’s new look, and her 60s soul-trap sonic palette. We also discuss the meaning behind Sex Hysteria, how she’s now incorporating her cheer background into her work, generational cycles (and how hard it is to break them), not to mention working with Lil Baby and Gucci Mane too.
