Borneo and the Panas

By 1984, when Borneo was getting accustomed to the jungle, the panan numbered around 7000 and were living in roughly two different populations. He felt an immense connection with the panan people, despite never coming into contact with a single one of them. In his mind, these people were wild and free and untouched by time and modern day influence. The western group lived in larger communities and had settled into farming communities,. whereas the eastern group had become semi-settled but remained primarily nomadic or hunter-gatherer.
