Constantinople was the epi centre for the black death in europe. It spread from there along all of europe's trade routes and caused tremendous mortality. One byzantine emperor, johannus the sixth, even had his youngest son killed by the plague. The disease would at constantinople 11 times over the next hundred years. Each wave of the disease had devastating consequences.
