This chapter explores the stark contrast between global investments in border security and essential support for refugees and asylum seekers. It examines the role of advanced technologies, such as drones and facial recognition, in exacerbating inequalities while questioning the effectiveness of human rights frameworks like the UDHR in real-world crises. Through various case studies, including the Safe Third Country Agreement and the conditions in Greece, it calls for a critical reevaluation of resource allocation towards more humanitarian-focused approaches in managing displacement.
