The Dungan Revolt in China

The dungan revolt was a big free forall, with no single leader and no common cause. The dongans were descended from moslems who had fled persecution during the days of imperial russia. They looked just like han chinese and spoke a dialect of anderan. Majan al was one of these rebels involved in the revolt. As a rebel, he led his army against the ching and later against general zo's army. But by defecting to the ching side, machan a not only preserved the lives of his family, but laid the foundation for all that would follow.
