The Dangers of Publicizing Unprovidence Artifacts

The Israel Antiquities Authority quickly came out with this press release saying stop the presses. We made a mistake and there is some some egg on their face, but at the same time, there are still some question marks to this story. This is an illustration of one of the dangers of publishing, publicizing, publishing, unprovidence artifacts as if this was just created by somebody illustrating this technique for their students. If they never found out about the story being released, or if they decided not to come forth, that artifact could be used in who knows how much research.
