Is There a Crisis Level of Identity Outside of the Role of Mother?
A lot of women almost feel like they shouldn't have an identity outside of their kids. When you don't have a sense of who you are independent of the role of mother, for example, it can make letting go of that role be very disorienting. And i think that's not a unique experience at all. So the tempting thing to do is to stay in that role more than is actually needed with adult children or with children tiam trying to marry and really create an intimacy with a spouse.
