The Relationship Between Donne and His Son
John Donne's son edited the poetry and letters. He had a sense that his father was magisterially brilliant with language, but he also had an eye to reputation. So it would have been astonishing then at one point in Donne's life, to have imagined anyone would have been worried about preserving his reputation. I think Donne's relationship with his children would have been a much more formal one.
