The History of Toulouse
The Languedoc was part of the Roman Empire until the fifth century, when it was conquered by the German Visigoths. It switched hands briefly and then was taken over in 759 by the Frankish king, Pippin the Short. The first comped or count of Toulouse was a guy named Chorso in 778. Title to the county passed from family to family by royal decree with without real stability.
