The Difference Between You and Me

In East Asia for centuries, the actual common way of reckoning someone's age has been very different from ours. If you were born December 31st, you could be two days old by our reckoning and two years old by Korean reckoning. But where is Korean New Year? Well, that time when everybody's odometer rolls over would have been on January 1st but they've modernized it. These birthdays are more important to my experience than others' because there's still a 20-day gap between us and them. I really do feel like the difference between you and me comes up all the time, generationally, but I don't think it can't possibly matter.
