The Role of Addiction in the Treatment of Drug Addiction
A lot of the percent of people seeking services for drug addiction and alcohol addiction have personality disorders. So empathy is not, which is a very sophisticated emotion, is not often a factor with these personality disorders. And so that coldness is a sense of simplifying their life so they don't have to focus on anyone else. They use the addiction to eliminate the need for human interaction and they basically will hide behind it.
