Is Circumcision Central to Judaism?

i'm so interested in the information that suggests that circumcision is not as central to judaism as we may be taught, or we might have thought. What i'm focusing on is the quest of, like, why should we do this? In 50 years from now, we're going to think of gender in profoundly different ways then most of us are thinking about it to day. And in that world, what sense does it make to continue to do a tradition that is based on gender from the way they saw it two thousand, three thousand years ago? I would really like to think this in relation to the changes that we are thinking about in terms of gender in our society to day.
