The Totalitarian Ego and the Moon

When a core belief is questioned, we tend to shut down rather than open up. I think one of the ways that I've started to see this is through the lens of what's called the totalitarian ego. There's a mini Kim Jong Un trying to keep out threatening information just like the real dictator controls the press in North Korea. It allows us to not have to admit that we're wrong or question some of the deep-seated beliefs that we've maybe based our lives on. In the long run, it prevents us from unlearning and rethinking. And it means we stand still while the world around us is changing.
