The Lambeth Doctorate is an honour bestowed by the Archbishop of Canterbury on those who have served the church in a particularly distinguished way. It has been able to award degrees like this since 1533 but they're not that common. The current Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has conferred the degree just twice in his ten years in the job.
