Quantum Algorithms and the Deep Learning Revolution

The entire deep learning revolution was based on an approach where we had no way to prove in advance that any of this was going to work. You can, just like with classical heuristics, like simulated annealing or genetic algorithms, things like that, typically it's not a matter of proof. We can't prove what these algorithms do. We can just try them out and see that often enough they do work. The only problem is that you can't measure to see the answer.
