Rum as we know it today has its origins in the Caribbean. Rum sales in the UK were just over £1 billion last year, which is around $1.2 billion. Global revenue from rum sales is reckoned to be nearly $16 billion. The big producers include Bacardi, Captain Morgan and Tandway.
