The Difficult Future of English
English is becoming a very different. language that does things more like for example French where me and Bill went to the drug store to get some laudanum today would be perfectly legal. English wanted to get rid of that. So it's not that English fell apart, but it's just that difficulty in terms of things like thou, thee, or I only as a subject and me only as an object,. those sorts of things became not quite what we do. And that's what you see with these Quakers in the weeks trial where they do not use thou and thee the way people had been as recently as 200 years ago.
