Gas Light in the Hotel Room in the 18 Sixties

Gas light was considered a public utility, and the city was supposed to provide this. But it still were the money that, especially in a city that was still growing like new york. Some hotels fitted their own rooms with gaslights so they could be used by travellers from other places who didn't know how to use them. A lot of people preferred candle light. So some turned to electricity as perhaps a solution. Electricity had been discovered centuries earlier. Experiments with this form of lighting during the nineteenth century were rather successful.
