In the 1960s, President Lyndon Johnson commissions Roger Ravel to chair a study of the impact of warming on ice shelves and sea levels. Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring creates political will for environmental regulation including banning DDT. In 1970 one professor says that not since Pearl Harbor had so much media coverage in such a short time as between 1965 and 1970.
