I think that's what culture shock comes down to. It's all about normal. Normal is a sort of level zero and normal can move around. You have to like, oh God, where's normal and you don't realize. I've noticed with my students that even if they're running a bit late or pressed for time, they'll still take a moment. And greet each other because it's just such an important way to show respect.
