The Neuroscience Of Learning - Dr Michelle Ellefson
The Weekend University
What's Going on at the Neuronal Level?
The mechanism that we think is responsible for learning in a memory is something called long term potentiation. And so what basically happens is, this is two neurons connected up. This is some exchange of chemicals that happens at that meeting point which was the synaps. As that action is activated, as that action potential keeps going through that connection and keeps it active, there are certain kinds of chemical events that are happening to create a strengthened connection between those meurons. That links to a very old idea coming out of the first half of the twentieth century by heb,. which has now been called hebian learning.
