The City of Petra

When arab armies swept across the region, petra doesn't seem to have featured in their interests at all. It's not ment and once in the narratives of the moslem conquest,. nor does it appear in any early islamic records. As power in this region underwent another of its great re shufflings, it seems the city of petra was finally abandoned for good. For these later people, the towering ruins of the nabotean cities became warnings about excessive pride - a reminder that the power of nature can always undo the works of man.
