The goal of therapy is to know these parts of ourselves and know them well enough that we don't have to act on them. Once you grasp that distinction, there's a wonderful quote by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. And he says, the line separating good and evil passes through every human heart. We are all a mix of caring, constructive, loving urges and impulses and desires and hateful, angry, destructive ones. That's the human condition. The thing right out of sight isn't out of sight doesn't gone. They come back and affect us in indirect ways.
