New York editing is a gate keeping job, and agents are gate keepers too. But the crowd doesn't have to worry about gatekeepers. So between those two groups, they kind of have revolutionized the whole romance genre in that they have allowed an almost unlimited variety of experiments. That has kept the genre keaps, it fresh. It keeps reinventing itself because it keeps going places. Some of the other shotters can't say that. They're much more hide bound, much more rigid in what's acceptable. If you put a vampire cop into a traditional murder mystery, it's not got to sell. The readers were inclined to be experimental too. They'll try something new.
