It's inspired in part by the true story of a Mazatek indigenous healer or Courandera in Oaxaca who worked with psilocybin mushrooms. She became so famous that people would travel from far and wide to see her. Aldous Huxley came to Mexico to see Mariasa Bina and he wrote The Doors of Perception after that.
